Pediatric Cancer and the
Creating Hope Act
David and Max on Good Day New York
September 22, 2011
September 22,
2011
—
David and Max
Plotkin are looking
for a cure... for
pediatric cancer,
that is. Max was
diagnosed with a
rare form of cancer
when he was four
years old.
Today, Max has been
cancer-free for more
than two years.
David -- who left a
lucrative career in
finance to focus on
his son's recovery--
has created the Max
Cure Foundation.
The father and son
duo visited Good Day
New York on
Thursday.
Cancer remains the number one
cause of death by disease in
children, with nearly 40
children diagnosed every day.
While survival rates have
significantly improved for some
types of pediatric cancers,
2,300 children are lost to this
disease every year. Furthermore,
for those who survive their
grueling battle, three out of
every five suffer from
debilitating and
life-threatening conditions as a
result of their disease and
treatments.
Due to the unique nature of
pediatric cancers, drug research
and discovery lags behind that
of adults. In fact, in the past
twenty years, there has been
only one new drug approved to
treat pediatric cancer that was
not already approved for adults.
A
distinguished panel of experts
discussed barriers to
progress and policies to
accelerate the development of
safe, effective pediatric cancer
drugs.

August 20, 2011 —
More than 1250 people came out

2011 Max Cure Events to over

On

On behalf of the Babies Heart
Fund and The Max Cure
Foundation, we would like to
thank all involved in the first
Children’s Cup Golf Classic.
This is the first time two
pediatric causes have come
together to play in a Ryder
Cup-style golf event—pinning one
charity against the other for a
day of friendly competition and
giving back. The event had been
more than a year in the making,
and we were excited to see it
finally come to fruition.

Inspired by the story of a brave
little boy, the Max Cure
Foundation, together with play
experts Unplugged on a Rug and Kidville, introduces Be Brave
Adventures for Families. This
2-hour “playshop” gave families a unique opportunity to
play through fun obstacles
together, make art they loved,
dance and sing—all while
learning how to bring it back
home with them for more enjoyable
and developmentally productive
play at home. And to top it off,
all of this fabulous family fun
helped benefit kids battling
cancer.

East Hampton, NY
—
They closed the beaches in the Hamptons the weekend of
our event because the tides were high and the ocean was
roaring. However the sun was shining despite Hurricane
Bill.
There clearly was a stronger force present - there
always is. The Roar For A Cure Carnival was
meant to be.
The Carnival was a huge success and the
money raised was beyond our expectations. Very special
guests included Supermodel Christie Brinkley, Actor Aida
Turturro ("Janice Soprano," The Sopranos); golf great
Justin Leonard; former NFL player Vyto Kab (NY Giants);
NY Congressman Jim Bishop; and actor, model, musician
Keli Price.
The Carnival was MC'd by WKTU's Radio personality Goomba Johnny
and the pop music group Push Play performed live and
signed autographs. Thanks to all for your support, donations and generous
contributions.
